Chapter 4

Kyra hurriedly smoothed her skirt again as she stumbled off the elevator onto the development floor. She had to get the hell out of there before anyone saw her. Practically running to the ladies room, she spent a solid fifteen minutes in one of the stalls, just sitting and catching her breath.

She was an idiot. Not only was Bryan Ross her employer, but he was also not relationship material. Hadn’t she just said she wanted to date with some purpose, not just flirt around with some guy because he was fun? Now, she’d just nearly had sex with her boss. But if what they’d done was any indication of his skills in the sack, then it was no wonder women didn’t want to leave him.

Her hands still shook from the adrenaline and need coursing through her body. Hanging her head low, she dragged in one more shaky breath. The stupid breathing exercises were supposed to help. But they didn't. She kept thinking about Bryan's hands on her thighs. His fingers slipping past her underwear to stroke her. The way she'd responded. God, the way he’d splayed her thighs wide and licked her again and again. She had no choice—she had to quit. There was no way she'd ever be able to look him in the face again without thinking about his tongue.

No. As strong as the compulsion was to run, she wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction. He’d gotten her off, but he hadn’t used her. Only because you were interrupted. No. He’d taken pleasure in her pleasure. Maybe her early assessment of him was wrong. Either way, she wasn’t going to leave. She’d made the choice to kiss him. She could live with that.

But she certainly wouldn’t be chasing after him like so many before her, begging for scraps. If he wanted to see her again, he’d have to chase her.

When she got back to her office, it didn’t take long for Megan to pounce. “So, I see you weren't escorted off the property. He couldn’t have fired you.”

Kyra cast her a baleful glance.

Megan hustled in, closing the door behind her. “What the hell happened? Are you okay?”

Kyra nodded, then shook her head. Wrapping her arms around herself, she rocked a little in her seat. “I might have had a minor fuck up, but I’m back on track.”

Megan’s brows furrowed. “Explain minor fuck up. And why is your hair all disheveled?”

Kyra ran a hand over it to smooth it. “I, uh…might have...” Kyra’s voice trailed off.

“Start at the beginning.”

Kyra did, and Megan sat in Kyra’s guest chair, her eyes transfixed. Kyra left out the more sordid details. Her friend didn't need to know about Bryan's tongue technique.

“So what happens now?”

“I have no idea. The chicken shit inside me wants to run and hide, but I’m too stubborn for that. I’m just not sure how I’m going to face him. But let me just tell you that I totally get it. All the fawning over him and women showing up here, trying to see him.
